The Sky is Not Just Falling, It's Pink and Purple Too
The National Organization for Marriage produced an advertisement full of angst-ridden, troubled and upset folks warning of the dire "gathering storm" of gay marriage threatening America.
The overly-serious ad, harkening back to the 1950s Red Scares, which warned of Communists under every bed, sounds the alarm of married gay people in every bed — in your home, in your child's school! “Lions and tigers and bears! Oh, my!”
If you want to view the original ad, it is here.
A very interesting article at boxturtlebulletin.com blog provides a point by point rebuttal of the claims made in the advertisement. In fact, the ad's grievances, aired by actors, stretch the truth beyond the bending point to suggest gay marriage had anything to do with the situations the ad cites. (I seem to recall something somewhere about "by their fruit you shall know ...." I don't know; maybe you remember.)
Seemingly begging to be parodied, the advertisement has received a small avalanche of sendups. The one featured here includes a number of celebrities and is getting a lot of the buzz. (The original just had actors, but no one you'd recognize.) Enjoy.
